One of our top blogging tips is to write for your reader. Always keep in mind who you are writing for. It’s tempting to write about the things that interest you but are they the things that will interest your target audience?
It’s important to understand who you are trying to reach with your blog before you begin writing. You should also consider where you will be sharing your blog posts. Are you sharing in the right place? Do you use the social media platforms that your target audience are using?
Once you have established who your audience is, it will be easier to come up with ideas for your posts. Try and choose subjects that your readers will engage with and make your posts as interesting as possible.
As well as making your blog interesting and engaging, you also need to think about the way you are writing. Are you using language that your target audience will understand?
Think about your customers or clients and their knowledge of your industry, products or services. Will they understand the jargon and terminology that you use on a daily basis or do you need to make it more reader-friendly? What questions would they have about the subject you are blogging about and are you answering those questions?
If you are struggling to write for your reader then it can help to picture a particular customer or client as you write. Alternatively, take some time to create a picture of your ideal reader. Are they a business owner? What kind of turnover do they have? Are they a homeowner? What kind of income do they have? Are they male or female, young or old? The more detailed your description the better. Knowing who you are writing for will help ensure you stay on track.
